What Are Some Pros and Cons About Pomeranians?

pom1 What are some Pros and Cons about Pomeranians?

So my girlfriend decided to get a Pomeranian.
And I’ve heard that they bark a lot
And they are over their head when it comes to their size.
But then again they’re cute and fluffy.
Oh and if we do get one are there any breeders near Modesto CA?

Cons-
Willful and stubborn(you must assert yourself, and be patient with training)
Demanding(when it comes to attention)
Easily matting double-layered coat(you must groom this dog daily to prevent tangles as well as to get the dog familiar with being handled so going to the groomers is easy)
Not ideal dog for warmer climates
Gets excited easily(not great for every household)
Sheds a lot during the puppy stage before the adult coat comes in.

Pros-
Loyal
Eager to learn
Great Alert dogs
Rambunctious and playful
Very soft and super cute
Have an independent side(as much as they like attention they like it on there terms)

With all dogs training and obedience is a must.Start training this breed EARLY!Socialization is also key…And exercise is also very important. If you want a calm dog you must walk with it daily.I say at least a combined 45min out of the house…yes they do bark but it only becomes an annoyance and out of control when the owners haven’t instilled proper behavior. This breed is very proud. And like some smaller dogs they can have a napoleon complex. All of the negative behavioral associated stereotypes can be fixed. It just comes down to training.Don’t let the dog get away with things just cuz its small and cute like most owner do.

  • reputable breeders breed crap

think twice about getting a purebred from a reputable breeder is a high priced puppymill.get a mixed less health problems and live longer than purebreds.purebreds are overbred inbred and linebred so much they have alot of health problems as they get older.if you get a purebred don’t go to a reuptable breeder.they care only about conformation and structure nothing about the inside of a dog.they just want that champion show dog.put a ad in your local paper less chance it is inbred that way.vets love reputable breeders because that’s money in their pockets.

My grandparents have 2 well trained poms who are absolute angles. My grandmother wouldn’t have it any other way…on the other hand my aunt has 3 out of control poms who have taken over.My aunt thinks its funny. She has a naturally passive personality so she has no idea how to be a leader when it comes to strong willed breeds. Her dogs have become a crazy barking mess!….ive seen both sides.
