Training Collars For Dogs: Training The Trainer

Everybody loves to have a new puppy; training and educating it is another matter however. Some trainers see a solution in training collars for dogs, although it takes a bit of research in order to know exactly which training collar is the best or most appropriate to your dog's situation and characteristics. There are also numerous variations of each kind of training collar with different manufacturers offering various models with different featuress.

It is best not to get bogged down by that at first; once you have selected the variety of training collar that best suits your situation you can browse the rest of the options

Kinds of training collars for dogs

One of the most important parts of training is the selection of the right training collar. Designers, of course, create every single training collar with the intention of modifying a dog's behavior, but they greatly differ in how they go about it. One option is an electronic collar. The electronic collar gives the dog a small, harmless, jolt of static electricity whenever the dog misbehaves.

There are also choke chains available for dog training. As the name implies, a chocke collar will constrict the dog's neck whenever the dog pulls too hard or the owner pulls the leash towards him or her. However, proper training must be undertaken by the owner of the dogs in order to avoid hurting the dog in the process. Lastly, there are citronella collars, which spray the muzzle of a dog with a lemon-like odor, either automatically or with the push of a button from a remote control.

Regardless of the training collar used, it's extremely important to let the dog know which are the exact results expected from the training in a way that it's very clear. Without this corrective training he will tend to become fearful and just see the collar as a punishment. Finally, while training might be uncomfortable for the dog or the owner at the beginning, in the long run the need of the training collar and the corrections will decrease, as the dog learns the required behavior and commits less and less faults.

Today, training collars for dogs are one of the most useful tools for dog owners. There are different classes of collars, but the most common are electronic, choking, and spray based. However, training collars for dogs should always be used in training and only under supervision and with clear instructions.
