Types Of Bark Control Collars
Why So Much Barking?
The first thing you should do is find out why your dog is barking more than
usual. The dog might be trying to indicate through barking that it's ill,
scared, or lonely. If your dog has one of these problems, then don't make it
wear a bark control collar. These things can be dealt with other ways, like
proper training and attention. However, some dogs bark because they are bored or
plain spoiled, and they could benefit from wearing a bark control collar.
Selecting a Bark Control Collar for Your Dog
Bark control collars come in three different types. There are even some bark
control collars that combine two of these types.
The first of these collars is the one that sprays the dog with citrus smell
whenever the barking starts. Dogs don’t like this smell, and, over time, the dog
will avoid having the smell around them. Some citronella collars will also give
a warning “hiss” sound so that the dog can learn to stop barking sooner.
Then there are the collars that emit small shocks when the dog barks. The shock
is harmless and not painful, just like the one you get when you handle fabric,
but it is enough for the dog to stop barking. Moreover, these collars usually
shut off after a while in order to give your dog a rest.
The ultrasound or sonic collar sounds a high pitched tone that people can’t
hear. This sound is activated whenever the dog barks, so as to make the dog stop
barking.
One of the biggest benefits of a bark control collar is that the dog will be
being trained all the time, not just when the owners are around. It's specially
useful if you are away at work or asleep at night.
If your dog barks because it's ill or lonely, then a bark control collar is not
advisable. bark control dog collars should be used only on dogs that bark as a
bad habit. You can find collars that use citrus spray, sonic sounds, or
electrical shock.
